We’re hiring!

Tor.com is looking for an experienced social media manager to oversee our online magazine’s social media channels and outreach. Responsibilities include strategizing, developing, executing, and analyzing campaigns to promote Tor.com’s articles and fiction over social media outlets. Candidates will need to have detailed knowledge of sci-fi/fantasy literature and visual media, great copywriting and communication skills, and awareness of how to navigate fandom interests and larger social trends. Remote candidates encouraged to apply.

You’d be joining a small tightly-knit team, doing some of the weirdest work out there.

What You’ll Do:

  • Creating and scheduling daily posts on relevant social media platforms, including Facebook, Threads, Instagram, Bluesky, Twitter, and more.
  • Writing copy on Tor.com’s social accounts and newsletter that matches the voice of the platform, subject of discussion, and Tor.com brand.
  • Creating images, animations, or short videos to supplement social media posts or campaigns.
  • Tracking and analyzing social media response metrics and presenting conclusions and recommendations to Tor.com’s editorial and production teams.
  • Moderating discussions within social media posts to stay appropriate to subject and adherent to a platform’s Terms of Use.
  • Assembling, finalizing, and scheduling weekly newsletter.
  • Communicating trends and news to editorial team where applicable.
  • Creating and updating Tor.com’s long-term social strategy.

 

What You’ll Bring:

  • Strong writing skills and voice.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Detailed knowledge of sci-fi/fantasy literature and visual media.
  • Ongoing knowledge of social media and online norms and trends.
  • Experience with social media scheduling tools.
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices.
  • Experience with using data tracking and analysis tools geared towards social media.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing data on user behavior and engagement.
  • Experience with Dreamweaver, Exact Target, and/or Hubspot is helpful but not required.

 

Ideal Experience:

  • Minimum 1-2 years experience in social media campaign creation and tracking.
  • Portfolio of previous social campaigns not required, but would be extremely useful.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

 

This role will have an annual salary of $70-$75K.
